Westhab Opens Van Cortlandt Men’s Rapid Rehousing Center in the Bronx

Westhab recently celebrated the opening of the Van Cortlandt Men’s Rapid Rehousing Center, a new 130-bed facility in Riverdale that will provide safe, dignified shelter and supportive services for men experiencing homelessness.

The newly constructed center marks an important addition to the community’s network of homeless services and reflects Westhab’s commitment to creating quality spaces where New Yorkers can stabilize and take steps toward permanent housing.

The facility was developed in partnership with the New York City Department of Homeless Services and is owned by a Westhab-affiliated nonprofit. Designed specifically to serve single men, the center provides residents with a safe place to stay along with access to the services and support they need as they work toward housing stability.

Westhab celebrated the opening at a ribbon cutting on September 25 with representatives from the Department of Homeless Services, community partners, and members of the Westhab team. Among those in attendance was Department of Social Services Commissioner Erin Dalton.

The center represents more than a new building. It is part of Westhab’s broader effort to strengthen the pathways out of homelessness by pairing safe, purpose-built housing with the services and support residents need to move forward.

“Ending homelessness takes more than a place to sleep. It takes safe housing, strong services, and a community that is willing to invest in solutions,” said Westhab President and CEO Rich Nightingale. “This center gives us another opportunity to help people stabilize, connect with the resources they need, and take the next step toward permanent housing. We’re proud to be doing that work here in the Bronx, alongside our partners.”

The project also reflects the importance of collaboration in addressing homelessness. Westhab worked closely with the Department of Homeless Services, elected officials, and neighborhood partners throughout the developement, demonstrating what can be accomplished when public agencies, nonprofits, and communities work together toward the shared goal of helping New Yorkers move from homelessness to permanent housing.

The Van Cortlandt Men’s Rapid Rehousing Center is the latest example of Westhab’s work to build communities and create pathways to housing, stability, and opportunity for New Yorkers experiencing homelessness.
