Westhab's Wage Subsidy Program offers a comprehensive
training, job development, and placement package to eligible
participants.
The program starts with a three-week workshop
that includes:
- Work-related "soft" skills, such as interview
techniques, resume writing, budgeting proficiency, and
job retention skills.
- Use of computer program for vocational exploration and
skills assessment.
- TABE testing for reading and math proficiency.
The second phase provides in-depth employment
counseling to determine the type of subsidized work the participant
will be seeking. Then Westhab works with local employers to
match the individuals' and employers' needs.
Finally, participants and local employers enter
into on-the-job training contracts for approximately three
months of subsidized employment. During that time the employers
receive up to 100% reimbursement for participants' salaries
and fringe benefits; and Westhab provides job "coaching"
to help acclimatize the new employees to their workplaces.
At the end of the contracts, the employees transition into
unsubsidized employment.
To be eligible for Westhab's Wage Subsidy Program,
an individual:
