In
recent years, a number of empirical studies have demonstrated
that the presence of caring adults in the lives of at-risk
youth has a strong positive effect on their resiliency. This
includes resistance to high-risk behaviors, such as substance
abuse, delinquency, and violence; as well as enhancement of
pro-social attitudes and behaviors such as improved academic
performance, self-confidence and communication skills.
As we work to expand our corps of community
volunteers, Westhab is committed to high-quality training
and ongoing support to individuals interested in becoming
tutor/mentors to our young homeless residents.
