Each of Westhab's family shelters and two of
our apartment buildings provide resident children with after-school
and vacation
day
academic enrichment and recreation programs. Working in conjunction
with Southern Westchester BOCES, the Urban League of Westchester,
the Westchester Philharmonic Orchestra and with funds from
the Westchester Community Foundation, Westchester Arts Council,
and a number of other foundation and corporate sources, the
children participate in literacy training and remediation,
tutoring in other academic skills areas, computer education,
arts and music activities, cultural heritage learning, and
community service projects.
Along with Westhab staff, the programs include
a number of dedicated volunteers from the community, from
college students to senior citizens. We are very fortunate
to have a number of volunteers who have worked with our resident
children for over 10 years
