In 2007, Westhab helped over 200 homeless households move
into permanent housing.
We help homeless housing ready clients
search for, secure, and manage their transitions to permanent
housing in the following ways:
Permanent Housing Services
Upon entering transitional housing, Westchester
County residents are required to apply for permanent housing.
Westhab's housing placement staff and case managers assist
clients in completing applications for Section 8 (federally
subsidized) housing vouchers, municipal housing, and any other
housing opportunities.
Westhab housing placement staff assist clients
with many aspects of home-searching including following up
on rental ads, dealing with brokers, completing housing applications,
and advocating on behalf of clients with Section 8 and other
housing program staff. When clients are ready to move into
permanent housing, staff help them secure a moving package
from the Department of Social Services. Housing placement
staff and case managers guide clients in using these packages,
which may include rent security deposits, linen allowances,
and moving services. Westhab also assists clients in securing
other necessary items for their new homes.
Post Relocation Services
Westhab clients who move into permanent housing
are entitled to participate in a New York State Homelessness
Intervention Program.
For at least 9 months, they receive services
that include, but are not limited to:
- Eviction prevention counseling
- Budgeting assistance
- Employment and training referrals
- Mental health and substance abuse referrals
- Domestic violence intervention
- Advocacy for children in school
- Assistance with Dept. of Social Services and other other
governmental programs.
