Westhab participates in the Westchester County
Department of Community Mental Health's Shelter Plus Care
Family Program. Through this program Westhab affords 30 families-headed
by individuals with a mental health diagnosis-with up to five
years of subsidized housing. In 2006 we extended the program
to include housing for five single male veterans and in 2007
added housing for an additional 12 single male and female
veterans.
The Westhab Shelter Plus Care Family Program
provides case management and life-skills assistance to all
participants. Family participants are placed in scattered
site apartments throughout the County; Single veterans are
housed in one bedroom units in one of our multifamily buildings
in Mount Vernon, and in studio apartments at our singles residence
in Yonkers. Westhab also provides the support needed to maintain
a healthy living environment within the community. Our goal
is to help families and single veterans acquire the skills
and services needed to sustain independent living in their
own permanent housing.
