Cross Street Condominium in Yonkers
This
project was Westhab's first home-ownership development, as
well as the first to be built in compliance with the landmark
federal court order mandating desegregated housing in Yonkers.

Of the 22 town homes at Cross Street, nine were sold without
income restriction. at market rate, and 13 were sold at subsidized
prices to families earning between $24,000 and $77,000 a year,
creating a unique mixed-income home-ownership community.
In stark contrast with a widely held perception of subsidized
housing, the Cross Street condominiums, designed by renowned
architect John Sullivan, integrate beautifully into the surrounding
neighborhood.
Westhab views this community, which was built
as a relatively small development with low environmental impact,
as a model for promoting diversity and providing new, affordable
housing opportunities in any community in Westchester County.
North Eighth Avenue Condominiums
in Mount Vernon
Westhab's
initial involvement in this 11-unit development was as a consultant
to P. Forest Construction, to assist them in accessing New
York State funding. After attaining $275,000 in New York State
Affordable Housing Corporation funds, we were asked to co-sponsor
the project. The City of Mount Vernon was able to provide
$330,000 in HOME construction subsidies. And the Westchester
County Department of Planning contributed $110,000 for this
$1,815,000 new affordable homeownership development.
The tudor-style building contains two one-bedroom,
seven two-bedroom, and two three-bedroom condominiums for
families earning less than 80% of Westchester County median
income.
