About Westhab

Westhab began its work in 1981, with the founding mission of providing homeless people in Westchester County, New York with decent, affordable housing. Since that time we have moved over 4,000 homeless families into permanent housing.

Westhab creates quality affordable housing by acquiring and renovating vacant apartment buildings as well as building new rental and home-ownership housing. Westhab works to improve the neighborhoods where we provide housing, by collaborating with residents, business owners, government, and other non-profits, to create safe, vibrant, and well-served communities.

Westhab recognizes that the needs of the homeless and low-income people extend far beyond the provision of good housing, and provides critical supportive services through: case management;comprehensive employment and training programs; normative community models and training; life-skills training; the provision of infant and child day care; a wide array of comprehensive children's and youth development services; transportation; and linkages for mental health, substance abuse, and education services.

Westhab also works to improve the neighborhoods where we provide housing, by helping residents grow and maintain successful, integrative community and economic development.
